The Studio Portrait Research - Terry Richardson

The studio portraits Terry Richardson has captured look fun, being that both the photographer and the sitter enjoyed the shoot. He also captures a photograph of President Barack Obama in a different light, compared to the way Platon captured him.

Terry has mainly captured light hearted portrait photographs of famous people, Miley Cyrus, Sky Ferreira, Lena Dunham and Cara Delevigne e.g. The photographs are captured on a stark white background and look as though they have been taken with the camera flash as well as studio lighting.

The photographs Richardson captures shows the sitters in a more goofy, fun, messing around type of way, but still somehow remains professional throughout. The photographs are successful and show off the personality of the person being captured.

Also, throughout looking at Richardson's work I came across a shoot that didn't have the sitter look as though they were enjoying themselves. The photo shoot of the Olsen Twins was different in comparison to the rest of the sitter he had captured, the twins had more of a serious expression on their face.

I also found another photograph that was different, it was a close up shot of Sky Ferreira and looked as though it was captured with a different lighting.

Overall, I find Richardson's photographs have inspired me to maybe try out a different approach. I might experiment in the studio a bit more with the sitters and do some shots of the sitter just being themselves and goofing around in front of the camera.
